Purpose / Goals / Objectives
Program goal/aim
To produce orthodontists who are competent in professions and a set of 21st century skills, to serve the society with high ethical and professional standards through their life-long learning.
Program Objectives
To develop graduates with the following competencies:
– Possess moral standards and professional ethics
– Understand principles and theories related to the fields of orthodontics and provide orthodontic treatment in various types of malocclusion both dental and skeletal abnormalities
– Initiate, analyze, summarize, criticize, and conduct research in orthodontics or other medical sciences based on the professional moral and right procedure of research and apply knowledge for orthodontic treatment
– Conduct self-directed learning and follow the advance of academic and technology in orthodontic fields
– Achieve good communication and team work skills with leadership and high responsibility.
Apply information technology for learning, conducting research, data analysis, effective presentation.

Our students are encouraged and prepared to sit in an examination for Diplomate Thai Board of Orthodontics and Membership in Orthodontics (MOrth) of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Program Philosophy
The program is designed to offer educational experiences that promote critical thinking skills and evidence-based orthodontics through the concepts of learning-centered education, outcome-based education, and constructivism by fully integrating education, clinical practice and research. The graduate will receive clinical experiences in diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical management of various orthodontic problems including patients with cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial syndromes. The program strives to support graduates in recognizing the evolving nature of contemporary orthodontic practice by providing a full range of comprehensive clinical experiences including application of new technologies and innovations in orthodontic practice. This will also equip graduates with the conquest of ethics and morality in conducting scientific research and evaluating relevant literature systematically. Such experiences will enable the residents to become highly competent orthodontists according to World Federation of Orthodontists (WFO) standards.

1.1 Use information technologies for searching evidence appropriately in relation to identified problems in orthodontics

1.4 Conduct a research project with appropriate data collection and analysis in accordance to international ethical guidelines.
Diagnose dentofacial deformities and malocclusions accurately using data gathered from patients following the professional standards of orthodontics
2.1 Perform a history taking from patients to obtain sufficient information for orthodontic diagnosis in accordance to their chief complaints
2.2 Conduct a clinical examination appropriately with patient problems using suitable dental techniques including digital dentistry
2.3 Select laboratory diagnostic tests, radiographic examination techniques, and other investigations with necessity and appropriateness to patient problems, together with making accurate interpretation
2.4 Provide accurate diagnosis of dentofacial deformities and malocclusions in consistent with anomalies of the dentition, growth of the craniofacial skeleton, and functional abnormalities
Formulate a comprehensive orthodontic treatment plan with collaboration in a multidisciplinary team, giving a priority to a patient-centered care
3.1 Evaluate both medical and dental conditions including the development of dentition and facial growth for a comprehensive treatment plan
3.2 Make proper referral plans to other dental specialties for complicated dental treatments that go beyond a competency standard of orthodontists
3.3 Evaluate psychological aspects of patients in relevance to orthodontics according to a patient-centered care
3.4 Assess the need for orthodontic treatment on individual and societal levels using a holistic approach
3.5 Develop an orthodontic treatment plan with appropriateness to patient using a multidisciplinary approach
Manage orthodontic problems using a holistic approach, according to the professional standards of orthodontic practice
4.1 Eliminate or at least lessen etiologies of dentofacial deformities and malocclusions
4.2 Conduct orthodontic treatment procedures to treat orthodontic problems using removable and fixed orthodontic appliances.
4.3 Conduct advanced orthodontic treatment procedures to treat complicated orthodontic cases, including craniofacial anomalies, orthognathic surgery, syndromes, and medical compromise
4.4 Manage behaviours and psychological problems including pain, stress, and anxiety in children and adult patients
4.5 Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in taking care patients who are in needs of interdisciplinary treatment
4.6 Assess clinical outcomes of an orthodontic treatment following a holistic care concept to reflect a quality of treatment, leading to quality enhancement
Manage complex orthodontic cases including patients requiring orthognathic surgery, patients with oral clefts, craniofacial syndromes, obstructive sleep apnea, special needs and systemic medical conditions.
Communicate with patients or their caregivers, colleagues, a multidisciplinary team, and the public by using appropriate methods
5.1 Explain a disease condition together with a treatment plan and progress to patients or their caregivers as well as a multidisciplinary team
5.2 Conduct accurate medical and dental records in compliance with international standards
5.3 Demonstrate communication and collaboration skills to maintain positive relationships in the workplace.
5.4 Provide meaningful information with etiquette and professionalism to the public using proper presentation techniques and communication technologies (or digital innovations)

Applicants must graduate from dental school with a D.D.S., D.M.D. or equivalent degree which is accredited by the Office of the Education Commission with the following qualifications
– Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.00 (1-4 scale). Foreign applicants are required to submit their official class ranking in addition to GPA.
– Applicants must have at least one year of working experience as a licensed dentist prior to the application deadline.
– Have and English Proficiency Examination score as the requirement of Faculty of Graduate Studies. The English exam must be taken within 24 months prior to the application deadline.
– Other exceptions may be considered by the Program Director, committee and the Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies
