TEMs employ a high-voltage electron beam to create a highly-magnified image. A very fine electron beam passes through the fragile specimen and scatters a fluorescent screen at the bottom of the microscope. This image can then be studied directly within the TEM or photographed. So, TEMs have become so valuable within the biological and medical fields.
