DTMU Launches the 3rd Short Course in Geriatric Oral Medicine to Strengthen Specialized Dental Care for Aging Society

On May 11, 2026, the Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontology, in collaboration with the Continuing Dental Education Center and the Academic Affairs Section, Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University (DTMU), organized the opening ceremony for the 3ʳᵈ intake of the four-month short course program in Geriatric Oral Medicine (Module 1), under the theme “Management and Treatment of Common Oral Lesions in Elderly Patients.” The program aims to enhance knowledge and strengthen the capabilities of dental professionals in providing comprehensive oral healthcare for older adults, in response to the rapidly aging society.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Bundhit Jirajariyavej, Dean of DTMU. Associate Professor Dr. Warungkana Chidchuangchai, the program director, delivered the report on the objectives of the course at the Faculty Committee Meeting Room, 17th Floor, 50th Anniversary of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building.

A total of eight dentists joined the training program to further develop their professional skills:

The course has been carefully designed to strengthen participants’ competencies in diagnosis, treatment planning, and systematic care for elderly patients. It emphasizes evidence-based practice to improve the effectiveness and quality of clinical care.

The training program is being held from May 11–15, 2026. Key activities include in-depth lectures on common and complex oral lesions in elderly patients, knowledge sharing and clinical experience from distinguished faculty members and guest speakers from the Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontology, as well as competency assessments based on standardized criteria to certify participants’ expertise.

This program reflects DTMU’s commitment to developing highly specialized dental professionals and enhancing the quality of oral healthcare services for older adults in accordance with international standards, ultimately contributing to sustainable quality of life for people in an aging society.
