In 1994, Emeritus Professor Somsak Chuckpaiwong initiated the establishment of a Dental Hospital within the Faculty of Dentistry at Mahidol University. The primary objective was to create a centralized hub for comprehensive dental services, delivered by specialized professionals. Additionally, the hospital was designed to serve as a practical training ground for undergraduate and postgraduate dental students, dental technician students, and dental assistant students, while also functioning as a center for continuous education and skill development for dental health personnel.

The envisioned dental hospital was intended to facilitate clinical research, advance dental technology, and provide specialized care for patients with complex dental conditions who may require referral to other healthcare facilities. Over the years, distinguished individuals have served as Directors of the Dental Hospital. The name list is as follows:

In 2007, recognizing the evolving role and significance of the dental hospital within the university’s structure, the Faculty of Dentistry appointed members to working groups to consider the organization structure of the faculty, leading to a proposal to elevate the status of the dental hospital to that of a department within the faculty. Subsequently, on November 24, 2010, Mahidol University’s Council approved the proposal, formalizing the renaming of the institution as the Dental Hospital, Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University.

Following this initiative, Mahidol University formally declared the reorganization of its departments, slated to come into effect on September 1, 2011. Consequently, the Faculty of Dentistry embraced the nomenclature of the Dental Hospital, Faculty of Dentistry, Mahidol University.

In line with this restructuring, the Faculty of Dentistry embarked on the construction of the 50th Anniversary of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building in 2007. In November 2011, following the completion of construction, the Dental Hospital transitioned its operations to the newly building.
