Low Sodium Campaign: “Good Life, Less Sodium” Co-organized by Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Faculty of Dentistry, and Faculty of Public Health at Mahidol University

On July 3, 2024, Associate Professor Dr. Sompop Prathanturarug, Vice President for Planning, Quality Development, and Academic Services at Mahidol University, along with deans from various faculties, including Clinical Professor Dr. Sirichai Kiattavorncharoen, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, Associate Professor Weerapong Phumratanaprapin, Dean of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, and Associate Professor Dr. Sarawut Thepanondh, Dean of the Faculty of Public Health, presided over the Low Sodium Campaign: “Good Life, Less Sodium.”

This campaign is part of the “Campaign to Reduce Sodium Consumption in the Rajvithi Campus Area,” jointly organized by the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, and the Faculty of Public Health at Mahidol University.

The event featured a lecture titled “Balancing Salty Foods: Tips for a Safe and Healthy Diet” by Associate Professor Dr. Surasak Kantchuvessiri, President of the Thai Low Salt Network and Nephrologist at the Faculty of Medicine, Ramathibodi Hospital. Following this, there was an academic discussion on “Good Life, Less Sodium” by Dr. Sanga Damapong, Nutritionist and Advisor at the Department of Health, Ministry of Public Health, and Lecturer Dr. Chonlachai Arnamnart, faculty member of the College of Sports Science and Technology, Mahidol University.

In addition, there was a “Healthy Low Sodium Meals” exhibition, which took place at Maegrath Conference Hall on the eighth floor of the 60ᵗʰ Anniversary of His Majesty the King’s Accession to the Throne Building at Mahidol University Faculty of Tropical Medicine.

This campaign aims to drive policies to reduce sodium consumption in alignment with Mahidol University’s Healthy University: Low Sodium Policy. The goal is to raise awareness of the negative health effects of excessive sodium consumption, which contributes to chronic non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
