MUDT’s Executive Team Visit the Microanatomy and Histopathology Laboratory, Histology Digital Imaging Facilities at the Department of Anatomy

On March 25, 2024, MUDT’s executive team, led by Clinical Professor Dr. Sirichai Kiattavorncharoen, the Dean, and Assistant Professor Bundhit Jirajariyavej, the Deputy Dean, visited the Microanatomy and Histopathology Laboratory, Histology Digital Imaging Facilities, located on the 4th floor of the Preclinic Building.

This visit aimed to admire the recently renovated laboratory, which is poised to transform the teaching and learning of the histology laboratory for second-year dental students in both the Doctor of Dental Surgery Program and the Doctor of Dental Surgery Program (International Program).

The renovation of the Digital Laboratory ensures the alignment of the curriculum as digital education and meets with the international educational standards and the strategic plan of the faculty. The key feature of the Digital Laboratory is the advanced Histology Digital Imaging technology which incorporates a slide scanner capable of capturing high-resolution images from tissue sample slides. These images are stored in a Net image server accessible via a wired digital network (LAN) system. With 36 network computers available, students can effortlessly study various tissues with high resolution and precision. The transition to a digital format eliminates the limitations associated with the traditional microscopy.

Moreover, students can access digital histology images remotely via the Internet, facilitating independent study and knowledge review. Mahidol University’s Faculty of Dentistry emerges as the first institute in Thailand to offer a fully digital histology practice.
