Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry Conducts Oral Cancer Screening Project at Buriram Hospital

On February 29, 2024, Assistant Professor Dr. Boworn Klongnoi from the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, as Head of the Oral Cancer Screening Project, along with Associate Professor Dr. Siribang-on Piboonniyom Khovidhunkit from the Department of Advanced General Dentistry, and postgraduate students from the Master of Science Program in Dentistry (Major in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery) and Residency Training Program in Oral Diagnostic Sciences, conducted an Oral Cancer Screening project at Buriram Hospital.

This project aimed to screen patients who had oral lesions that might have developed into oral cancer. The screening took place from February 29 to March 1, 2024, at the hospital’s dental department, which served 270 patients, and 55 tissue samples from the biopsy were sent for laboratory diagnosis.

Prior to this joint screening with Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry, village health volunteers (VHVs) and subdistrict health promotion hospitals carried out a preliminary screening in the areas. They identified potential risk cases among 48,157 people in the community.

This screening marks the final step in providing diagnosis, biopsy, or initial treatment for oral cancer.
