Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry (MUDT) held an orientation on August 4, 2023, for incoming first-year dental students of the academic year 2023.
Led by Clin. Prof. Dr. Sirichai Kiattavorncharoen, Dean of MUDT, alongside Asst. Prof. Bundhit Jirajariyavej, Deputy Dean, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ratchapin Srisatjaluk, Deputy Dean for International Undergraduate Programs and Network Collaboration, the orientation provided an informative start to the student’s journey.
The event featured a warm welcome from Clin. Prof. Emeritus Dr. Nitiphan Jeeraphaet, President of Mahidol University Dentistry’s Alumni Association, followed by insights shared by Asst. Prof. Dr. Pornpoj Fuangtharnthip, Chair of the Student Advisory Board, concerning the roles of parents and advisors. A video presentation offered a glimpse into student life at MUDT.
Following the opening session, there were introductions to both Thai and international Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) Programs.
For the Thai DDS program, Lect. Penporn Luangchana, Assistant Dean for Educational Affairs and Educational Technology, elaborated on educational affairs, scholarships, and awards. Asst. Prof. Dr. Naruemon Panpradit, Assistant Dean for Educational Affairs and Educational Technology, then walked the students through the DDS curriculum and preparedness strategies.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warungkana Chidchuangchai and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somsak Mitrirattanakul presented “Educational Management in Professional Elective Courses in Specific Requirement Courses and Free Elective Courses, Year 1–Year 6.”
The Q&A session provided an opportunity for parents and guardians to engage in dialogue at Debaratana Auditorium, located on the 4th floor of the 50th Anniversary of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building.
The International DDS Program offered an equally enriching experience, with insightful sessions at the 304-305 meeting rooms on the 3rd floor of the same building. Lecturers and staff from Mahidol International Dental School (MIDS) presented key aspects, including the overall curriculum by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somsak Mitrirattanakul, registration procedures and tuition details by Ms. Malada Baophunthong, and scholarship opportunities along with student services by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kajohnkiart Janebodin.
To offer a holistic perspective, the Mahidol International Dental Student Association (MIDSA) shared their activities, and current MIDS students presented a video overview of the school and students’ well-being, enhancing the newcomers’ understanding of the international DDS program.
Overall, Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry’s orientation provided a well-rounded introduction for the incoming freshmen, fostering a strong foundation for their academic journey.
