Closing Ceremony of “New Southbound Special Needs Patients Oral Care” Training Program for Dentists
and Dental Assistants and Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Cooperation Concerning
“International Special Needs Oral Care Medical Service Network” at Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry
On September 21, 2020, Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry (MUDT) in collaboration with Chung Shan Medical University College of Oral Medicine, Taiwan, arranged a closing ceremony of “New Southbound Special Needs Patients Oral Care” Training Program held to train dentists and dental assistants in oral care for patients with special needs and a signing ceremony of Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) regarding International Special Needs Oral Care Medical Service Network. Those were carried out and broadcasted through an online conference platform at a 301 conference room on the 3rd floor of the 50th Anniversary of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Building.
In that connection, Prof. Chia-Tze, Kao, Representative of Chung Shan Medical University, represented his university to conclude the program at the beginning, followed by 2 more key closing lectures; “Designing Smiles Mahidol Style” by Asst. Prof. Supakit Peanchitlertkajorn, a lecturer from Department of Orthodontics, MUDT and “Oral Hypofunction” by Prof. Chuan-Hang Yu, Director of Special Needs Stomatology, Chung Shan Medical University Hospital.
In this auspicious occasion Prof. Dr. Waranun Buajeeb, MUDT’s Dean, was invited to present certificates of the program competition to successfully trained 5 dentists and 10 dental assistants of MUDT and delivered closing remarks to conclude the program and express her appreciation to all sections involved in successfully organizing the program.
Once the closing ceremony finished, Prof. Dr. Waranun Buajeeb in tandem with Prof. Chia-Tze, Kao, Dr Mathurada Suwannapho, Director of Rajanukul Institute, Dr. Kulaya Rattanapreedakul, Director of WeCare Dental Clinic and Dr. Noppawan Sriwongpanich, Director of Yuwaprasart Waithayopathum Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Hospital, Samut Prakan Province, signed the MoC regarding the “International Special Needs Oral Care Medical Service Network”. The signing was witnessed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pisol Senawongse, Deputy Dean for Physical Environment and International Relations, MUDT and Prof. Chuan-Hang, Yu.
The MoC’s main objective is to generate a patient referral system, especially for special needs patients, in parallel with improving dental knowledge and skills of dental practitioners and their supporting staff in various related fields so that patients with special needs would gain more access to a quality dental service in an equal manner. In addition, this would bring about more short-term staff/ student exchange programs and research collaboration between the 2 institutions in the future.
To achieve the abovementioned goals, MUDT will serve as a main coordinator of the service network and will always contribute academic supports in oral healthcare for special needs patients towards 3 medical institutions; 1) Rajanukul Institute 2) WeCare Dental Clinic and 3) Yuwaprasart Waithayopathum Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Hospital, in collaboration with and supervision of specialists with hands-on experience on providing medical/ oral care to special needs patients from Chuang Shan Medical University and Ministry of Health and Welfare, Taiwan.
