Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry welcomes the delegation from

Japanese dental product companies

Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry welcomed a Japanese delegation composed of dental product companies on June 20, 2019. Associate Professor Dr. Choltacha Harnirattisai, Department Head of the Operative Dentistry and Endodontics, met with the delegation composed of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan (METI), Medical Excellence Japan (MEJ), Asia Dental Forum (ADF) and Japanese dental product companies at Room 301, Floor 3, Chalermprakiat Building, Mahidol University Faculty of Dentistry, Phayathai Campus, Bangkok.

The Japanese delegation introduced a food branding system they use in Japan called FOSHU, which stands for Food for Specified Health Use. The system allows food manufacturers to put “FOSHU” labels on different food products, which assures the consumer that the product is approved by the government as having “specific health effects”. This labelling system is well known in Japan and it encourages health conscious people to choose some products over others.

The objective of the meeting was to establish a network with the Thai government officials and the dentists in the leadership position to develop awareness about the high values of oral care food products and introduce a food labelling system known in Japan as TOKUHO or FOSHU with the objective of meeting the needs and resolve the challenges faced by partner countries.
